USED TO/
WOULD
|
Usamos el USED TO para indicar que una acción que ocurría regularmente
en el pasado, ya no ocurre.
Usamos WOULD para
hacer referencia al mismo concepto que USED
TO, aunque no es muy frecuente usarlo. Hay que tener en cuenta que no
podemos emplear WOULD cuando
hacemos alusión a un estado y no a una acción. Se traduce como el pretérito
imperfecto en castellano I would go fishing-Iba a pescar. Hay que tener en
cuenta que sólo se utiliza con verbos de movimiento y nunca con verbos
estáticos

·
I USED
TO take sugar in my
coffee but now I don’t.
·
Mary USED
TO work in a cinema
but she works in an office now.
·
My father WOULD go fishing every weekend pero
en ningún caso podríamos decir My father WOULD
work in a bank

GET USED TO
|
Usamos GET USED TO para expresar que nos estamos acostumbrando poco a
poco a una situación nueva o a algo que estamos haciendo. Estamos en proceso
de aceptación o de aprendizaje.
|
·
Pedro went to live
in London. He is finding the change in culture a little different but he is GETTING
USED TO it.
·
I still have a few
problems using my new I-Phone but I’m GETTING USED TO it little by little
|
BE USED TO
|
BE USED TO (y también got used to) significa que ya
nos hemos acostumbrado a la situación nueva o a hacer algo; algo que quizás
fue difícil.
